Jinzhai County Meishan Yu-Lang Hope Elementary School

Purpose of Visit: Revisit

Grades: K-6 (13 classes total)

The school is located in Meishan town center and its entrance faces a busy street with a lot of vehicle traffic. To ensure safety, the ground in front of the entrance should be concreted (sidewalk) and a fence installed. Overall, the new school facilities and improved environment will help further strengthen teachers’ enthusiasm as well as appeal to parents to send their children to attend the school.

Students

No. of Students: 706 (no boarding)

Student performance is amongst the best in the county. 100% of students graduate on to Jinzhai County’s county-level junior high.

Teachers

No. of Teachers: 27

In 2012, the teachers won a top county-wide educator’s award, while the fifth grade teacher achieved #1 county-wide.

Buildings/Facilities

– 6 new classrooms + 7 old classrooms
– Library: ~35,000 books
– Cafeteria: Under construction, in use by end of the year
– Restrooms: 18 flush-style toilets

Problems/Issues

The campus grounds in front of the mixed-use building still needs to be concreted. Urgent need for 45 computers. 4 more teachers needed. The grounds in front of the school entrance still need concreting to help with safety as well as campus cleanliness.
